About the job

We are looking for a Tribal Community Engagement Lead who will serve as the central person responsible for overseeing a range of activities, from organizing in-person community events to video conference call listening sessions, to having 1:1 meetings with key stakeholders. Working closely with the tribal councils and tribal communities across Western Alaska, this position will lead all community outreach activities to communicate our broadband programs and services with tribal stakeholders, community residents and internal staff.

 

 Responsibilities:

  • Develop and nurture strong relationships with community leaders, community residents and internal teams for program and service information related to broadband installation.  
  • Organize and facilitate community events and meetings between tribal communities and internal stakeholders to describe the project, project schedule and services provided.  
  • Assists in generating and editing communications materials that are accurate, concise and demonstrate an understanding of Yup’ik culture and village life. 
  • Participate in developing and managing program schedules and work plans.  
  • Provides consistent program updates to the team about strategy, adjustments and progress.  
  • Analyze data and feedback from community assessments to inform strategic planning and decision-making.  

 

Preferred qualifications

    • At least an Associate Degree in Communications, Education, or Social Work.  
    • Minimum 2 years professional work experience working with tribes, non-profits, or related fields. 
    • Conversational Yup’ik proficiency is required. 
    • Computer skills and ability to learn and adopt tools that may be new: We primarily utilize Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). 
    • Ability to create and deliver simple presentations. 
    • Basic verbal and written communication abilities with clear grammar, structure, and cohesive thought.

Physical Demands

Work is primarily indoors in an office setting. No unusual physical activity is required. However, you may travel within Alaska, and in doing so will expose the employee to extreme cold: temperatures typically -10 up to -50 degrees below freezing wind chill for periods of up to 5 hours outside, with frequent breaks in warm dry areas. Employee must be able to lift their personal luggage and any personal equipment/supplies and climb into and out of small planes with confined spaces.
