About the job
Akiak Technology is looking for an Accounting/Budget Analyst to support all aspects of the company’s budget and support project teams with financial guidance and assisting with monthly close processes. The budget analyst will report to the Comptroller.
Responsibilities:
- Financial Management Support:
- Support duties related to accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
- Assist with preparation of financial and statistical statements and reports.
- Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies.
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies in a timely fashion.
- Maintain confidentiality of all financial data.
- Interpret and apply accounting policies, rules, and regulations to all work ensuring compliance with applicable standards (e.g. GAAP, DCAA).
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses to support executive decisions.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the company’s financial software (e.g.,QBO).
- Provide monthly reporting on financial performance and business Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Assist in the annual planning and budgeting process.
- Prepare consolidated financial and business reports for upper management.
- Partner on financial forecasts, taxes, hierarchical financial consolidation, and reporting processes.
- Maintain executive dashboards monitoring financial KPIs.
- Generate ad hoc financial and business reports.
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Previous experience of 3 years in GAAP accounting functions such as accounts payable and accounts receivable is required.
- Demonstrated accounting and budget transactional and analytical experience for company-wide financial management.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and analyze financial data effectively.
- General knowledge of government contracting and FAR.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks Online to collect and analyze data.
- US Citizenship required.

Physical Demands
Work is primarily indoors in an office setting. No unusual physical activity is required. However, you may travel within Alaska, and in doing so will expose the employee to extreme cold: temperatures typically -10 up to -50 degrees below freezing wind chill for periods of up to 5 hours outside, with frequent breaks in warm dry areas. Employee must be able to lift their personal luggage and any personal equipment/supplies and climb into and out of small planes with confined spaces.
